Firefox is possibly the most standards compliant web browser out there a this time. This alone makes it worth while adding to your computer. But there are even more reasons to look at using it, including the fact that you can extend its capabilities easily.

We look at how you can do this in this short article.

To add extensions to the Firefox browser you use the following steps:

At this point Firefox will bring up a new browser that shows you some of the possible extensions. Some of the most useful are shown below. All sites and links were valid as of 30 August 2005.

Web Developer Extension
Adds a menu and a toolbar with various web developer tools.
Fangs: The Screen Reader Emulator
This Mozilla Firefox extension creates a textual representation of a web page similar to how the page would be read by a modern screen reader. The extension and source can be downloaded from the SourceForge project page.
ColorZilla
Advanced Eyedropper, ColorPicker, Page Zoomer and other colorful goodies.
AdBlock
Once installed, it’s a snap to filter elements at their source-address. Just right-click: Adblock: done. Filters use either the wildcard character (*) or full Regular Expression syntax. Hit the status-element and see what has or hasn’t been blocked. To go with this is the Adblock Filterset.G Updater which updates the filters used on AdBlock every 4 to 7 days.
PDF Download
Allows to choose whether you want to view a PDF file inside the browser (as PDF or HTML) or you want to download it!
Event Spy 0.2.1
DOM Event Spy adds a context menu item to nodes in DOM Inspector’s tree view that allows you to watch events that pass by the selected node.
Aardvark
As you glide the mouse over the page, you will see a red rectangle framing each element under the cursor. You will also see a little yellow caption showing the HTML element type and its class or id if they exist.

If you find others that are useful for the design and implementation of web sites then please feel free to add them as a comment. Include the URL, the Extension name, and a short description, as shown above.
